Premier offers radiation safety services

Group purchasing organization Premier has added new radiation safety offerings to its contract portfolio.

The additions consist of a wide range of radiation safety services to protect patients and healthcare workers. They are intended to reduce the risks and costs associated with the use of ionizing radiation, including cancer, burns, and other injuries, the company said.

The new offerings include the following:

  • Physics consulting services to improve patient outcomes through the effective use of ionizing radiation in medicine. Services include accreditation support, state regulation compliance, equipment calibration, and commissioning.
  • Devices used to capture dose measurements for individuals exposed to ionizing radiation, including occupational personnel, patients, and emergency response teams. This includes monitoring devices used for area and environmental surveys.
  • Dose-tracking services to capture and document patient radiation exposure in medical records and national dose registries.
  • Radiation dose savings, including iterative reconstruction packages to produce clinically acceptable images with reduced exposure protocols.

Buffalo, NY-based Kaleida Health was an early adopter of Premier's radiation offerings via the 250-member Greater New York Hospital Association; it has been using them for the past 10 years to improve patient safety, Premier said.
