Group issues call for best lung cancer, COPD protocols

The Prevent Cancer Foundation has issued a call to imaging facilities, asking them to submit their CT scanning protocols as part of a competition to determine the best technology and techniques for screening for lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

The foundation's CT Lung Cancer Screening Protocol Challenge is designed to help the lung cancer and COPD research communities find the best CT scanners and imaging protocols for detecting early lung cancer, as well as lung damage caused by emphysema. The first phase of the challenge focused on lung cancer; now, the foundation is adding COPD to the project.

The invitation is open to all clinical sites around the world that perform imaging of lung cancer and COPD. The deadline for data submission is May 31, and initial findings will be released on June 13 at the foundation's Quantitative Imaging Workshop XIII in Bethesda, MD. The foundation will continue to accept submissions after that point.
