SCCT names Toshiba Young Investigator finalists

The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) has named the finalists for this year's Toshiba Medical Young Investigator Awards (YIA) for cardiovascular CT.

Sponsored by Toshiba Medical Systems, the awards support the professional and clinical development of top radiology residents and cardiology fellows who are within five years of completing a training program, the SCCT said.

Each applicant was required to submit an abstract and a mini-manuscript detailing research related to the development of cardiovascular CT. The finalists will receive a one-year complimentary SCCT membership, a $1,000 travel stipend, and free registration to the SCCT's annual scientific meeting in Washington, DC, to be held July 6-9.

Each finalist will give a presentation at the meeting, the research will be judged by an independent panel, and two winners will be recognized. The manuscripts will be eligible for peer-reviewed publication in the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, the SCCT said.

This year's finalists are as follows:

  • Dr. Evangelos Oikonomou -- "Imaging Phenotyping of Perivascular Adipose Tissue Using Computed Tomography Detects Coronary Inflammation in Humans"
  • Dr. Kenji Fukushima, PhD -- "Coronary Flow Quantification Using Dynamic 320-Detector CT Angiography With Motion Coherence Image Processing; Comparison to Trans Attenuation Gradient"
  • Dr. Roberto Dantas Jr. -- "Myocardial Perfusion Imaging Evaluation With 320-Row MDCT Compared to Rubidium-82 PET for the Detection of Significant Coronary Artery Disease"
  • Dr. Daniel Groves -- "Validation of Single-Energy Metal Artifact in Cardiac Computed Tomography: A Clinical and Phantom Study"
  • Abdul Rahman Ihdayhid -- "Diagnostic Performance of CT-Derived Fractional Flow Reserve Using Reduced Order Modeling and CT Stress Myocardial Perfusion Imaging for Detection of Haemodynamically Significant Coronary Stenosis"
  • Zih Huei Wang -- "Tissue-Mimicking 3D Printing for the Prediction of Post-TAVR Paravalvular Leak In Vitro"
