The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) announced the first recipients of its new fellows grant program in invasive cardiology. The fellows program is designed to provide grants to invasive cardiologists-in-training for outstanding contributions to angiography and diagnostic imaging research, according to the Bethesda, MD-based SCAI.
Dr. Mehmet Cilingiroglu from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and Dr. Jason Wallmoth from Washington University in St. Louis were each presented with a grant of $20,000 at SCAI's annual scientific sessions conference in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
Cilingiroglu was chosen as a recipient for his research on the detection and characterization of vulnerable plaque using optical CT. Wallmoth's research focused on the evaluation of contractile mechanics and myocardial scarring in patients with a single ventricle after Fontan operation using MRI.
The grant program is sponsored by multimodality vendor GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K., and SCAI.
