Carestream ships new DRX detector

Carestream Health has begun worldwide shipments of its wireless Carestream DRX 2530C digital radiography detector.

The detector received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) earlier this year and is designed for low dose x-ray exams for pediatric, orthopedic, and general radiology applications.

The new cesium iodide detector's size of 25 x 30 cm and enhanced detective quantum efficiency (DQE) can image premature babies and infants in a pediatric intensive care unit, and it offers lower dose than computed radiography cassettes or gadolinium scintillator detectors.

The detector fits into a tray underneath an incubator so x-ray images can be obtained to monitor the condition of ill or premature babies without moving them, the company said. It can also perform tabletop exams such as knee, elbow, skull, and others that may require a patient to hold the detector or that require a smaller field-of-view.
