Carestream enters R/F market

Carestream Health is staking its claim in the global radiography/fluoroscopy (R/F) market with the launch of two new R/F systems.

DRX-Excel features a table and a tube in one system, with an optional integrated flat-panel digital detector available for both general radiography and fluoroscopic sequences, according to the vendor. It can also be equipped as a conventional R/F system with either computed radiography cassettes or Carestream's DRX-1 detectors with an image intensifier. Its fixed table has a weight limit of up to 200 kg (400 lb) and can be tilted for fluoroscopy exams, Carestream said.

The second system, DRX-Excel Plus, offers an elevating table that tilts for fluoroscopy exams and can be raised or lowered for patients. It has a table weight capacity of 265 kg (584 lb).

Carestream noted that both versions provide a source-to-image detector distance of 180 cm and the ability to select an image intensifier for fluoroscopy or use the optional flat-panel detector. In addition, DRX-Excel and DRX-Excel Plus include a positioning pedal and a remote control.

Options include integration of a DRX detector, four-way float-top table movement, and the ability to stitch multiple images together for long-length exams, according to the company. In keeping with the company's X-Factor design concept, the two systems will support sharing of a DRX detector among an R/F room and other DRX mobile or room-based radiography or R/F systems, Carestream said.

While both systems will be available in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and other countries, U.S. customers will only be able to purchase the DRX-Excel Plus system.
