Carestream Health has won a contract with a New York hospital for its DRX-Revolution mobile digital radiography (DR) system.
Crouse Hospital in Syracuse is designing a new emergency department that does not include an x-ray room. Instead, the facility will use Carestream's portable DR unit to perform exams on incoming patients not in critical condition.
The new department will have a CT scanner, and an MRI unit will be located in an adjacent area, Carestream said. Patients who require cross-table, C-spine, or other complex x-ray exams will be transported to Crouse's radiology department.
The hospital has the busiest emergency department in Syracuse, performing nearly 23,000 x-ray exams a year. It plans to begin building its new department in 2016.
