Siemens Healthcare has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for three new models in its Cios family of mobile C-arms.
The clearances apply to the Cios Fusion, Cios Connect, and Cios Select systems, which join the flagship Cios Alpha system in the company's mobile C-arm product line.
Cios Fusion uses the same flat-panel digital x-ray detector as Cios Alpha but is targeted at the midrange segment. Fusion comes in 30 x 30-cm and 20 x 20-cm detector sizes, and it includes most of the same software and hardware as Alpha, such as a touchscreen remote that can be positioned at tableside to control the C-arm within a sterile work area.
Cios Connect is designed to perform a broad range of applications and weighs in at just 547 lb. It includes software options that let physicians display images simultaneously in subtracted and x-ray views to optimize the presentation of contrast and bone and to support a variety of surgical procedures.
Cios Select is an entry-level model with an easy-to-use push-button interface to improve workflow, according to the company. It uses the company's Intelligent Dose Efficiency Algorithm (IDEAL) for continuous contrast and brightness adjustments, as well as the automatic dose-performance adjustment found on the rest of the Cios family.
Finally, Siemens announced that the newest version of the Alpha C-arm features a square flat-panel detector and updated software with a large preview image area, along with a one-touch metal correction feature.
