Guidance system developer UltraGuide has received Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for CT-Guide, an interventional guidance system for CT scanners.
Designed for use in clinical interventions on anatomic structures where CT is already employed, CT-Guide enables more accurate placement of the biopsy or aspiration needle in the target organ, according to Denver-based UltraGuide. Both the biopsy and aspiration needle can be visualized in real time, the firm said.
Another feature, respiratory gating, compensates for respiratory motion, reducing the margin of error previously attributed to a patient’s breathing, according to UltraGuide.
CT-Guide attaches to most commercially available CT scanners, according to the firm. UltraGuide has placed CT-Guide at sites in Denver, as well as Munich, Germany, and hopes to install units at eight more locations by the end of the year.
