A team at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville, NJ, is offering an alternative to traditional surgery for treating abdominal aortic aneurysms. Using the Ancure System developed by Guidant, interventional radiologists and vascular surgeons perform a procedure that consists of endovascular grafting of the aneurysm.
The procedure is a minimally invasive technique that results in less patient discomfort, lower risk of complications and a reduced hospital stay, according to Dr. Edward Buch, director of surgery at the center.
Indianapolis-based Guidant received Food and Drug Administration clearance for the Ancure System in 2000.
