Boston Scientific launches Promus

Interventional device developer Boston Scientific said that it has initiated international marketing of its Promus everolimus-eluting stent.

Promus is a private-label version of the Xience V everolimus-eluting coronary stent, which is manufactured by Abbott Vascular of Redwood City, CA, and distributed by Boston Scientific, according to the Natick, MA-based firm.

The stent received CE Mark approval in October 2006, which allows Boston Scientific to distribute the stent in select countries of the European Economic Area. It will also be available in selected countries in Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. A U.S. launch is planned for 2008, the company said.
