Sentinelle was formed to commercialize products developed through research at Sunnybrook and Women's Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, and at the 2006 RSNA show the firm will demonstrate a new table dedicated to breast and interventional MRI studies.
Called Vanguard, the table is designed to support high image quality and patient comfort while improving access to the breast for interventional studies. Vanguard's variable coil geometry allows placement of coils next to breast, resulting in good signal-to-noise ratios, according to the company.
The table also enables clinicians to vary the coil sizes used based on the patient's breast size, with smaller coils used for smaller breasts and vice versa. The table also applies slight compression to the breast, inhibiting motion and helping fill the image's field-of-view, resulting in higher-resolution images, Sentinelle said.
Sentinelle first showed Vanguard as a work-in-progress at the 2005 RSNA meeting, and received U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance in April 2006. Sentinelle is offering the table to owners of MRI scanners from GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K. Product shipments in the U.S. will begin in November, with international shipments to be announced.
