Interventional device developer FoxHollow Technologies has launched its latest device for plaque excision, the SilverHawk SXL.
The technology is part of the Redwood City, CA-based FoxHollow's SilverHawk product family, which currently includes 10 sizes of minimally invasive catheters designed to remove atherosclerotic tissue in leg arteries with peripheral artery disease.
SilverHawk SXL can be used in lower leg arteries, and has a lengthened nose cone. It also includes the firm's proprietary Micro Efficient Compression (MEC) technology, which features 150-micron laser-drilled vent holes in the tip of the catheter. The vent holes help release fluid during tissue collection, which could shorten overall procedure time by reducing the number of insertions required by the physician to remove the diseased tissue, according to FoxHollow.
