Barnes-Jewish orders Elekta Gamma Knife

Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO, has ordered a Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion system from Stockholm-based radiation therapy firm Elekta.

The gamma knife uses focused doses of radiation without an incision to treat malignant and benign brain tumors, as well as other brain disorders.

The hospital's gamma knife center has been offering stereotactic radiosurgery for greater St. Louis area patients since 1999.
