Johns Hopkins to buy Elekta Synergy system

Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore has placed an order to buy an Elekta Synergy S radiation therapy system from Elekta of Stockholm.

The unit will be installed at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins. Elekta Synergy S is an image-guided robotic linear accelerator that combines imaging with high-resolution radiation delivery, according to Elekta.

The system will enable Hopkins specialists to perform both stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic radiotherapy throughout the body, as well as stereotactic radiosurgery on cranial tumors unsuitable for Gamma Knife surgery, the company said.
