The Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) has released a position statement that outlines best practices for image-guided endovascular interventions when treating children in emergency situations.
The statement was published April 15 in the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology. It was written by a team of pediatric trauma experts representing interventional radiology, emergency medicine, intensive care medicine, and surgery; the team performed a literature review to establish 15 recommendations for traumatic injuries to the liver, spleen, kidneys, abdomen, pelvis, vascular system, and the extremities.
The guidance is endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Surgeons, American Pediatric Surgical Association, Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, Pediatric Trauma Society, Society for Pediatric Interventional Radiology, and the Society for Pediatric Radiology, the SIR said.
