United Imaging has installed one of its uExplorer total-body PET scanners at Bold Advanced Medical Future (BAMF) Health in Grand Rapids, MI. This is United Imaging's second installation of a uExplorer scanner in the U.S.

BAMF Health will use the uExplorer system to investigate how molecular imaging and theranostics are used to diagnose and treat disease. BAMF Health is building a clinic, radiopharmacy, and North American headquarters at Michigan State University's Grand Rapids Innovation Park.

United Imaging's uExplorer system combines the gantries from eight PET systems to create a scanner with a 2-meter bore that can perform total-body PET studies. The company believes that total-body PET has advantages over whole-body PET, in which multiple acquisitions must be acquired by moving the patient through the gantry. The uExplorer system can perform complete acquisitions in 30 to 240 seconds.

The BAMF Health installation comes after United Imaging installed a uExplorer system at the University of California, Davis in late 2019. The company has installed just under 20 of the scanners globally.
