Syncor International and Ion Beam Applications announced an agreement to build six new FDG manufacturing facilities around the U.S., four of which are scheduled to open in 2001.
Planned sites in Newark, Philadelphia, New Orleans, and Detroit will produce 18F fluorodeoxyglucose radiopharmaceuticals for use in PET scanning, which is gaining widespread acceptance among large hospitals and radiology centers, the companies reported. The location of two other sites is still being considered.
IBA is a cyclotron manufacturer based in Louvain-La-Neuve, Belgium; Syncor is a Woodland Hills, CA-based radiopharmaceutical producer.
