Marconi Medical Systems has expanded its oncology screening R&D efforts beyond CT simulation to encompass MRI and nuclear medicine. In support of this effort, the Cleveland-based vendor has signed a collaborative agreement with Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia to conduct clinical beta testing for MR simulation.
In addition, Marconi’s Proview Open MR system is being used at European sites to perform brachytherapy procedures, and the firm’s Viewpoint stereotactic localization package offers applications for oncology localization and radiosurgery, according to Marconi. For nuclear medicine, Marconi is working with Toronto-Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre in Toronto to conduct clinical tests with its recently introduced g PET technology.
The company has also discontinued the AcQsim CT simulation fellowship training course previously offered at the Emory University campus and will move it to a larger, more comprehensive cancer care facility, according to Marconi. The new fellowship training course has been updated to include more advanced applications such as intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and multimodality localization.
Marconi will continue to offer the AcQsim course at the University of Chicago and at Stanford University through the fall, and will introduce new campuses for the advanced course during the annual AcQsim symposium in Boston in October.
