The Society of Nuclear Medicine has published two new books on nuclear medicine topics.
A Clinician's Guide to Nuclear Medicine, by Drs. Andrew Taylor, David Schuster, and Naomi Alazraki, is an introduction to the diagnostic and therapeutic uses of nuclear medicine procedures. Designed to be an essential resource focusing on patient care and management, the book expands on the basic concepts explored in 1988's Fundamentals of Nuclear Medicine, according to the SNM.
The second new publication, Self-Study Program IV: Nuclear Medicine Oncology Topics 5 & 6: Bone Cancer Therapy and Radioimmunotherapy, is the latest in an ongoing series of self-study publications developed by the SNM. Among the topics it explores is the difficult issue of bone cancer pain, and how non-narcotic radiopharmaceuticals can reduce its severity.
Topic 6 of the self-study program, Radioimmunotherapy, covers a rapidly emerging approach to cancer treatment: systemic tumor-targeted radiation therapy using monoclonal antibodies linked to radionuclides. The section includes current information on the therapy, including antibody structure, function, and production; radionuclides for therapy, radioimmunotherapy concepts, clinical results, and future directions in the field.
