The University of Michigan Health System (UMHS) and the Van Andel Research Institute (VARI) in Grand Rapids, MI, are creating a new facility for cancer imaging.
The Center for Molecular Imaging will focus on developing imaging tools for comprehensive tumor management. Research also will combine the latest advances in genetic science with imaging technologies to track cancers as they begin, grow, and undergo treatment.
Funding for the center is being provided through a $10 million grant, over five years, from the National Cancer Institute. The center will use the facilities of the UMHS comprehensive cancer center and VARI, expanding on research already in progress at both institutions, as well as at Molecular Therapies, an Ann Arbor, MI-based biotech firm.
