SAN DIEGO - The Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNM) has launched a fundraising initiative to raise $5 million for its "Bench to Bedside" program to support education, research, and advocacy efforts in advancing molecular imaging.
The campaign's goal is to allow significant molecular imaging discoveries made by scientists at lab benches to be translated into practice so that they can be used by physicians, the SNM said.
The initiative was given a jumpstart on Sunday with the donation of $1 million by GE Healthcare, $500,000 each from Bristol-Meyers Squibb Medical Imaging and Siemens Medical Solutions, $250,000 from Philips Medical Systems, and $10,000 from FluoroPharma.
The program, which will be carried out jointly with the Education and Research Foundation (ERF) for SNM, will fund outreach activities to referring physicians and patient groups; support translational clinical studies and small innovative trials; and offer research grants and fellowships to advance new medical developments, the SNM said.
Leadership donations from SNM and ERF members reached $50,000 prior to the campaign's announcement, according to the society. More information about the "Bench to Bedside"campaign can be found via the SNM Web site.
