Healthcare products firm Cardinal Health of Dublin, OH, highlighted its plans to develop a new service that makes rubidium-82 available to cardiac PET practices without requiring them to purchase their own generator.
Purchasing a rubidium-82 generator can be an expensive proposition for a facility that wants to start performing cardiac PET, especially if it doesn't have the exam volume to fully pay for its use at the start. To help practices make the entry into cardiac PET, Cardinal is planning to start building mobile routes in which it will bring its own rubidium generators to practices, according to Sue Wallace, executive director of PET marketing at the company.
Many practices may find that it's more efficient for them to do all their cardiac PET studies on a single day, when the rubidium supply will be available. The company is working with its customers to set up mobile generator routes in areas where it can make the service available at least three days a week, Wallace said.
Cardinal also highlighted its educational efforts in PET, such as through its PET Foundation Program. A family practice module in the program is designed for PET centers looking to market their services directly to family practice physicians rather than through oncology or cardiac specialists.
Cardinal also launched a new marketing initiative in the spring designed for PET center marketing specialists who need more training in marketing. Cardinal conducts the seminars via online conferencing tools like WebEx.
