Positron Systems inks Mo-99 deal with Idaho State

Positron Systems has signed an agreement with Idaho State University of Pocatello for the production of molybdenum-99 (Mo-99), the precursor to the commonly used radioisotope technetium-99m.

Idaho State University's Idaho Accelerator Center has developed a new method for molybdenum-99 production that could provide an alternative to existing supplies, which come from nuclear reactors outside the U.S. Under the deal, Positron will work with the university to commercialize molybdenum production, with the goal of replacing international suppliers, the company said.

Idaho State recently received nearly $1 million in federal funds to further its Mo-99 research efforts.
