The Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico will remain closed for a second day on Tuesday due to nearby wildfires, according to a report by CNN.
Los Alamos is one of the top nuclear research facilities in the U.S., with more than 11,000 employees working at the facility.
The report noted that the Las Conchas fire was approximately one mile from the lab's southwestern boundary Monday night. The fire has burned some 44,000 acres, with one fire spotted on the lab's property.
An estimated 8,000 people were evacuated on Monday, according to a spokeswoman for Los Alamos County, with some 3,000 people on Sunday receiving an order to leave their homes voluntarily.
