Health Canada issues drug supply warning

Health Canada is warning that some drugs, including radioisotopes used in nuclear medicine tests, may be in short supply.

According to a report from CBC News, Health Canada cited Ben Venue Laboratories of Bedford, OH, as the source of the potential problem. A recent agency assessment of the facility identified deficiencies in manufacturing, which raised "concerns about product quality."

As a result, Health Canada will only allow drugs deemed medically necessary to be imported from the company.

The CBC report quoted a Ben Venue Laboratories spokesperson as saying the company faces "manufacturing capacity constraints that are resulting in back orders of some products, and we are working diligently to prioritize and expedite manufacturing for all current orders."
