Radiosurgery center operator American Shared Hospital Services (AMS) announced that Mevion Medical Systems is making progress in the development of a compact proton therapy system.
In October, Mevion Medical Systems delivered its superconducting synchrocyclotron to the S. Lee Kling Center for Proton Therapy at the Siteman Cancer Center. The shipment marks the last phase of manufacturing of the first Mevion S250 proton accelerator module, according to AMS.
AMS owns preferred stock in Mevion and is developing proton therapy centers at Tufts Medical Center, Orlando Regional Healthcare, and Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, which are expected to use the Mevion S250 proton therapy device.
