Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL) resumed production of the radioisotope molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) over the weekend after an unplanned shutdown.
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission reported the reactor's resumption. AECL's National Research Universal (NRU) reactor at Chalk River Laboratories went back online late in the evening of November 23.
AECL took the reactor offline last week due to unscheduled equipment repairs to the fuel rod flask, which is used in the fueling and defueling of the NRU reactor and the movement of other reactor components, including Mo-99 rods.
