BALTIMORE - The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) has appointed Dr. Hossein Jadvar, PhD, as its new president for 2015-2106.
The associate professor of radiology and of biomedical engineering at the University of Southern California (USC) plans to focus on developing appropriate-use criteria and devising methods for quantifying the quality and value of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging, according to SNMMI. He also plans to facilitate the clinical translation of novel radiotracers, as well as encourage an increase in the appropriate use of targeted radioisotope therapy.
Since 1999, Jadvar has been an attending physician at USC Keck Medical Center and Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. Previously, he held hospital appointments as a clinical fellow with the joint program in nuclear medicine at Harvard University and as a diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine resident at Stanford University.
SNMMI has also named Sally W. Schwarz, a nuclear pharmacist and professor of radiology at Washington University in St. Louis, as president-elect.
Schwarz plans to work on the safe and effective use of radiopharmaceuticals for both diagnosis and therapy and coordinate with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to help develop an expedited parallel review process.
Schwarz currently serves as chair of SNMMI's Committee on Radiopharmaceuticals and as co-chair of the SNMMI Coalition for PET Drug Approval.
