Dear AuntMinnie Member,
A plan to merge the training program for nuclear medicine physicians into the program for diagnostic radiologists has been shelved after getting tepid support.
The American Board of Nuclear Medicine (ABNM) and the American Board of Radiology (ABR) said this week that they decided to table the proposal to shut down the separate training track for nuclear medicine physicians and fold it into a newly created dual pathway run by ABR.
They made the decision after several surveys found significant opposition to the plan among the nuclear medicine community. Many respondents expressed concern that nuclear medicine would lose its independence under the proposal.
But this week's move leaves unresolved the issue that drove the merger talks in the first place: the declining job prospects for nuclear medicine trainees. Read more about this week's developments by clicking here, or visit our Molecular Imaging Community at molecular.auntminnie.com.

X-ray training simulation
Finally, visit our Digital X-Ray Community for an intriguing new study that has led researchers to believe they may have found a better way to train physicians to find lung nodules on chest radiographs. That story is available by clicking here, or visit the community at xray.auntminnie.com.
