GE Healthcare has made the first North American installation of its general-purpose ultrahigh-resolution SPECT/CT system based on digital detectors that use cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) technology.
Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis installed GE's Discovery NM/CT 670 CZT gamma camera. The system has a CZT-based digital detector, which enables direct conversion of photons into digital signals.
In the past, CZT technology has been limited to organ-dedicated gamma cameras, but Discovery NM/CT 670 CZT allows doctors to image every organ, as well as perform whole-body exams, GE said.
