NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes is making plans to quadruple its capacity to produce molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) at the University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR) in Columbia, MO.
NorthStar has signed a contract with Von Gahlen International to design and install a filling line, which will include a high-capacity unit to fill source vessels and companion nuclear radiation containment chambers. Installation is scheduled to begin in November, with full operability targeted for the first half of 2017.
With the expansion, NorthStar is investing more than $3 million in its development of new processes to produce Mo-99 without the use of highly enriched uranium.
