The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) has announced the recipients of its 2018-2020 SNMMI Wagner-Torizuka Fellowship.
The fellowship is for one or two years and was founded by the late Dr. Henry Wagner Jr. and the late Dr. Kanji Torizuka, PhD. It is intended to support the training, research, and professional development of Japanese physicians in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging early in their careers.
Each of the following fellows will receive an annual stipend of $24,000:
- Dr. Gensuke Akaike, chief resident in the nuclear medicine residency program at the University of Washington. His research focuses on SPECT/CT and PET/CT, primarily for oncology. He is supervised by Dr. Hubert Vesselle, PhD.
- Dr. Osamu Manabe, PhD, an assistant professor in the department of nuclear medicine at Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan. Manabe has conducted research with several PET tracers, such as the quantification of myocardial blood flow with oxygen-15-labeled water and rubidium-82, as well as the use of F-18 FDG and carbon-11 methionine to assess malignant tumors. He is supervised by Dr. Daniel Berman.
- Dr. Reiko Nakajima, PhD, a visiting research fellow in the department of radiology and nuclear medicine at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Her research explores the association between the therapeutic efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors and various parameters using PET/CT, gene mutation, and patient characteristics for several cancers. She is supervised by Dr. Heiko Schoder.
The program is sponsored by Nihon Medi-Physics in Japan.
Applications for the 2019-2021 SNMMI Wagner-Torizuka Fellowship are currently available online.
