Medical isotope firm Coquí RadioPharmaceuticals has received a transfer of land in Oak Ridge, TN, from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) on which the company plans to build a medical isotope production facility, primarily to manufacture molybdenum-99 (Mo-99).
The facility is expected to be completed in 2025, according to the firm. The 206 acres of land are in the Heritage Center Industrial Park, which is adjacent to Coquí's two partners, the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Y-12 National Security Complex.
The DOE will provide research support through the national laboratories, Coquí said. Medical isotope production facility designer Invap is slated to design the facility. Coquí said it has an exclusive license with Invap to use its technology in the U.S.
The choice of Oak Ridge is a change in location for Coquí; the company initially had planned to build a molybdenum-99 production facility in Alachua, FL.
