ANAHEIM, CA - More outreach is needed to explain the value of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging, according to Dr. Vasken Dilsizian, incoming president for the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) for the 2019-2020 term, in a video interview at this week's annual conference.
Nuclear medicine and molecular imaging are exciting areas thanks to the discipline's potential for both diagnostic and therapeutic uses. But more outreach is necessary -- to patients, government regulators, and referring physicians -- to ensure that the discipline is included in patient management guidelines.
"We'd like our members to be ambassadors and our patients to communicate how diagnostic or therapeutic study changed their lives or impacted their symptoms," said Dilsizian, who is also a professor of radiology and medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the chief of the division of nuclear medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
