The Journal of Nuclear Medicine (JNM) has released its June issue, which includes five new articles and commentaries related to COVID-19.
The journal's new open-access novel coronavirus coverage includes an article on how COVID-19 research efforts may benefit from the contributions of nuclear medicine professionals. The authors note that these physicians have substantial experience in detecting inflammatory disease and that radiopharmaceuticals may be able to be repurposed to target the novel coronavirus.
The new COVID-19 JNM content includes the following:
- A statement on guidelines and best practices for nuclear cardiology practices to adapt to COVID-19, including steps to protect healthcare staff and patients
- An article on the ability of "telenuclear medicine" to help physicians with nuclear medical expertise connect with those in regions without access to formal training
- An interview with UCLA Health President Johnese Spisso on how the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) health and hospital systems have addressed the pandemic
- A story on the man considered to be the first doctor to report on the novel coronavirus outbreak in China
