MRI vendor Fonar has received Food and Drug Administration clearance for its Pinnacle scanner. Pinnacle is a four-post, open MRI system with a 0.6-tesla cryogenless, superconductive subsystem. The new magnet technology marks an improvement on the firm's previously approved Quadt 12000 scanner, while retaining its less-claustrophobic open design, according to Fonar president and chairman Dr. Raymond Damadian.
The Melville, NY-based firm does not expect to begin marketing Pinnacle until its facilities for production and testing of its superconducting magnet assemblies are complete, however.
