Dear MRI Insider,

The irony of the news that came across the business wires on June 19 was too rich: Nestlé, Swiss chocolatier and overall food giant, bought Jenny Craig, a chain of weight loss centers, for $600 million. So the company that sells a number of tasty -- yet figure-unfriendly -- products will now offer a way to shed the excess pounds gained from consuming those same products.

The rapidly growing size of the U.S. population is a clear indication that Nestlé has many devotees. And sadly, children are among those who may overindulge in junk food on a regular basis. Adolescent obesity in the U.S. is on the rise and with it comes a host of co-morbidities, such as cardiac disease and diabetes. Researchers from the Cincinnati Children's Hospital in Ohio have devised an MR protocol for effectively and efficiently imaging these children. Click here to learn more.

In other news, the MRI Digital Community offers highlights from two studies on MR spectroscopy (MRS) in prostate cancer. Another MRS article explains how the modality aids in breast cancer diagnosis. A third study applies MRS in peripheral artery disease.

You'll also find an article on how an adaptive trigger delay can compensate for cardiac motion. German researchers suggest that MR isn't quite up to snuff for assessing kidney lesions. A group from Boston University conducted an MR study that linked knee joint cartilage loss to bone marrow lesions. And check out a piece on breast MRI.

Finally, we have several intriguing articles from our friends at Junk Architects. Take some time to read about access controls for MR suites and MRI site selection. Then check back on Wednesday for another column on how to select furniture for the MR suite.
