A mobile MRI scanner is being used to scan members of the U.S. Congress this week as part of an effort to raise awareness about the need for early brain cancer detection.
The mobile unit is offering free brain MRI scans on Monday and Tuesday to House of Representatives and Senate members and their staffs, as well as government agency officials. The event is part of a new campaign called Road to Early Detection that's being organized by the Brain Tumor Foundation.
A news conference will be held opposite the U.S. Botanic Garden at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, to highlight the issue. The foundation claims that more than half of all brain tumor patients could have their tumors successfully removed if the cancer is detected early.
