Case Western Reserve University is partnering with Microsoft to combine the company's quantum computing algorithms with Case Western's MR fingerprinting technology to better detect cancerous tumors.
Case Western has been developing a technology called magnetic resonance fingerprinting to improve the accuracy of MRI. It features a constantly varying sequence of pulses to create quantitative maps for characterizing tissues. The challenge is how to identify the best sequence of MR pulses and readouts to achieve the best scan efficiency.
Microsoft will optimize pulse sequences by mapping them to a form that is compatible with quantum computers; it will then use that algorithm to enhance the diagnostic capability of MRI. Microsoft HoloLens will also be used to create a 3D holographic model of the results.
The ultimate goal is to reduce MRI scan times and produce more accurate results.
