Philips has partnered with MRI contrast agent developer Polarean to facilitate xenon-based lung ventilation imaging for routine clinical applications on the vendor's 7700 3-tesla MR scanner.
Xenoview is a hyperpolarized xenon (Xe-129) gas contrast agent indicated for use with MRI in evaluating lung ventilation in adults and pediatric patients ages 12 and older. The combination of Xenoview with the 7700 multinuclei scanner may allow clinicians to view a patient's lungs in greater detail, while also enabling measurements of lung ventilation, according to the firms.
The first Xenoview clinical scan in North America using a Philips MR scanner took place at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Philips' multi-nuclei imaging scanning module, which has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance, was utilized in the study.
The companies will be showcasing their collaboration at this week's annual meeting of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) in Toronto.
