Electromagnetic localization developer Calypso Medical Technologies of Seattle has launched a new clinical study to evaluate its patient positioning system for external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) of the prostate.
The study will evaluate the safety and efficacy of the company's Calypso 4D Localization System as an accessory in radiation therapy delivery. The investigative system provides tumor location information for EBRT without delivering additional ionizing radiation.
The multicenter study will evaluate permanently implanted transponders in the prostate that communicate with the Calypso system and help guide patient positioning for daily radiation therapy. The study will also evaluate the positioning system to continuously track the position of the prostate.
