Varian installs respiratory gating system in Germany

Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems said it has installed its Varian RPM respiratory gating system at the Klinikum Cancer Center in Dortmund, Germany.

The RPM system works by placing a marker box on the patient's torso and monitoring respiration using cameras positioned in the treatment room. Respiratory gating is enabled by proprietary design features on the Palo Alto, CA-based firm's Clinac linear accelerator, along with a high-speed digital control system that can provide beam-on times of less than 100 millisecond bursts, the company said.
