Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems reported record revenues for its 2006 fiscal second quarter of $414 million, up 18% compared with the $351 million reported a year ago.
For the period (end-March 31), the Palo Alto, CA-based firm had net earnings of $54 million, a slight downturn compared with net earnings of $56 million a year ago. Option expensing of $7 million took place during the quarter, the company noted.
Backlog at the end of the quarter stood at a record $1.3 billion, 20% higher than at the end of the second quarter of fiscal 2005, Varian said.
For the fiscal year, the company said it believes total revenues should increase by about 14% above the fiscal 2005 total, and that third-quarter revenues should grow in the low double digits over the comparable period in fiscal year 2005.
