Swedish oncology firm Elekta has acquired Resonant Medical (RMI) of Montreal for $30 million Canadian ($28.5 million U.S.).
Resonant Medical's 3D ultrasound technology is designed for image-guided radiation therapy of soft tissue in the prostate, breast, liver, cervix, uterus, bladder, and head and neck. RMI's equipment is installed in the U.S., Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, and Ireland.
RMI's products will continue to operate with linear accelerators from all manufacturers. In addition, RMI will complement Elekta's Mosaiq treatment planning products by displaying soft-tissue structures in correlation with CT images and adding automatic segmentation and contouring tools.
Stockholm-based Elekta expects to consolidate RMI into its business by June 1, with the business producing revenue for this fiscal year of approximately $100 million Canadian ($95 million U.S.).
