Image-guided therapy developer ViewRay said it has won a contract with the University of Wisconsin for its radiation therapy system.
The University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center in Madison will become one of the first oncology research centers to acquire a radiotherapy system from ViewRay, according to the firm. ViewRay's work-in-progress research radiation therapy system features a combination of radiotherapy delivery and simultaneous MRI. It has been designed to provide continuous soft-tissue MRI during treatment so that clinicians can see where the radiation is being delivered.
The ViewRay system is currently available only as a research system for nonhuman use. The company is working to secure clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for commercial distribution of the system for clinical use, ViewRay said.
