Medical isotope developer IsoRay Medical said that the first treatment of metastasized brain cancer using its cesium-131 brachytherapy seeds was performed at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
The seeds were implanted directly into a woman's brain to treat a cancer that had originated in the breast, according to IsoRay. Since the first treatment, doctors at the institution have expanded their use of the seeds to treat more than 20 other patients with recurrent glioblastomas as well as metastasized brain cancer, IsoRay said.
