Elekta gets Guinness World Records mention

Oncology firm Elekta's Leksell Gamma Knife received a mention in Guinness World Records for halting the growth of the world's tallest human.

The company's Leksell Gamma Knife assisted in the radiosurgery of 29-year-old Sultan Kosen to stop his growth at the height of 8 ft, 3 inches.

Kosen suffers from the effects of acromegaly, and he has held the title of World's Tallest Living Human since September 2009.

Beginning at age 10, a tumor in Kosen's brain secreted enormous amounts of growth hormone, and the Gamma Knife radiosurgery offered the opportunity to improve his acromegaly. The technology delivered low-intensity radiation beams to Kosen's tumor.

The procedure was performed at the University of Virginia Medical Center by Dr. Jason Sheehan.
