Siemens Healthcare is touting its international strategic partnership agreement with radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems, in addition to showcasing an array of its radiation oncology products, at the American Society for Radiology Oncology (ASTRO) annual meeting being held this week in Boston.
The strategic global partnership between the two companies took effect on October 26 in North America following an international rollout announced in late April 2012. The Siemens-Varian collaboration covers the mutual marketing and representation of products for imaging and treatment in the global radiation oncology business. It also includes the development of software interfaces between Siemens and Varian treatment planning systems.
On the product side, Siemens is showcasing its CT, MRI, and molecular imaging systems. These include the Somatom Definition AS Open CT system dedicated for radiation therapy planning, the Biograph mCT PET/CT system for targeted radiation therapy planning combined with CT, and the Magnetom Skyra 3-tesla MR scanner.
