Varian wins Brazilian TrueBeam contract

Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems has won a contract with a Brazilian hospital for its TrueBeam advanced radiotherapy treatment system.

Clínicas Oncológicas Integradas will install the unit at its Botafogo site in Rio de Janeiro by the end of 2013, pending final approvals by the relevant regulatory agencies in Brazil. It is the first TrueBeam device to be ordered by a treatment center in South America, according to Varian.

Once the unit is installed, the Botafogo treatment center will become the second Clínicas Oncológicas Integradas site to offer RapidArc radiotherapy; currently RapidArc is delivered at the group's Barra Medical Center using a Trilogy radiotherapy system from Varian.
